Peggy, that's great! This is exactly the right way for anybody ordering flowers, but especially for a funeral. It is truly heart-rending to see those boxes at funeral homes, knowing somebody ordered on line thinking that what they saw pictured is what they will get. I'm always hoping they are not going to the service so they at least will be saved the embarrassment.

Anytime I need flowers for an occasion far away from home, I find the number of a local florist, and call them directly, telling them exactly what I want and paying for it by credit card with them directly. Better still, if I know people in the area, I call them and ask them for a recommended local florist for the occasion.

Great point, Bangalore! What could be more perfect than a gift that opens itself?

Roses, however, are not just great Valentine's Day presents. A gift of a rose is a welcome present any day of the year. Just ask the woman who receives a beautiful bouquet of roses on her birthday, or for Mother's Day. The greatest thing of all is that roses are the perfect gift, even when there is no special occasion or celebration at all.

@Mimis-Garden

There actually IS a truth to that. A shiny new penny would probably do absolutely nothing. However, the minerals that a more traveled penny gives off can be beneficial to cut flowers. Let me add though that the flower food your local florist provides is all that you need, it is formulated to actually mimic the mother plant.

Interesting... I heard if you put a penny in the water it will make them last longer but that has to be a myth. Heard anything about that?

Paul, this was a boxed thing just like Proflor sends out, it is a direct order from consumer to FTD.com, there is no florist involved in this. I don't think FTD should be trying to capture it's own orders that it fills without it member florist's involved, this is exactly what happens when a professional is taken out of the equation.

I mentioned FTD's new initiative of dealing directly with funeral homes to a Rotary brother who owns a funeral home. His reaction was that he only wanted to work with real florists - not a wire service or flowers in a box operation. He said his job was hard enough without having to unbox and arrange flowers.
